before & afters

check out this blog about our new TV stand.  the before & after pictures are much better than the ones i took on my iphone.  just ignore the silly lady who commented about my dusting skills - i think what she calls dust must have been the lighting of the camera :-)

Happy Anniversary to us!

Just a few pictures to remember that perfect day 2 years ago...
11.15.08

I love you big Adrian!

HATS!

so, you know that this family loves hats!
this weekend I met Jenn --
she has the cutest company for kids hats called
The Blueberry Hill.
There is even a hat called "The Beck".
how cool is that?
(Her son is named Beck)
We, of course, got "The Beck" for Beckley...
and as soon as the helmet is off,
he'll be rocking it!
Even better...
Jenn was nice enough to set up a discount code
just for my friends!
so, put in CAISA and you'll save 30%!

helmet update

So, in case you don't have a friend or family member who has also had a "helmet" like Beckley's... I thought I'd give you a little more info on Beckley's new hat!

The helmet is to treat plagiocephaly & brachycephaly.  Beckley's case was mild, but we opted to fix it while we could and get the helmet.

I was super worried about how Beckley would adjust to the helmet, but he has been just fine.   We think he may actually prefer having his helmet on -- especially when his attempts to walk fail :-)

I was also worried about what people would think about Beckley -- most people have known someone who has had a helmet, some people just ask me what the helmet is for... and there are some that just assume that something more serious is going on with him -- I just tell Beckley to say hi and smile at those people :-)

I was equally worried about what other people would think about me, as his mom.  I was so worried they would think that I had not done my job as his mom.  (although, I know I was just as diligent, if not more, as most about rotating the side of the head he slept on and keeping him off his back.)   I don't worry about this anymore... I can't tell you how many people have told me that they wish their kids had worn helmets to fix the shape of their heads.  I have also had many people tell me that they did the same things with each of their children, but only one/some needed helmets -- I think some kids must just be more likely to have problems with this, despite what we do to prevent it... I tend to think (and have had others tell me the same) that it is more likely with kids who have big heads and/or were born small or early (like my cute Beckley).

Beckley helmetless at his appointment today.

We had a helmet appointment today.  Beckley has been wearing his new hat (23 hours/day) for a month.  The results were great!  We expect that we only need to wear the helmet for about another 2 months.

So, although I hate not being able to kiss my sweet boys head and tantrums thrown while I am holding him are often painful (that helmet is hard!)... I am glad we made the decision to get the helmet.

For those of you wanting to know more (I think it is all pretty interesting), here are some of his helmet stats:

Cephalic ratio
   (length/width)
     on 9/14 was 0.926
on 11/11 was 0.896  (average is about 0.87)

Oblique Diagonal Difference
(the difference between the two diagonal lengths of his head... so if neither side was flatter than the other it would be zero)
     on 9/14 was 7.9 mm
     on 11/11 was 4.0 mm

We love this boy and his helmet!  But... all I want for Christmas is... no more helmet :-)

good night sweet boy.

Beckley's little Mickey Mouse is lost...
so, this cute doggy is the replacement.
Luckily,
Beck LOVES this dog.

halloween 2010

First Beckley was a dragon...

our neighborhood had a little Halloween festival,
so we took our little dragon!

 Then, Beckley was a lion.
Here he is greeting trick-or-treaters on our front porch.

Here is our little lion with our cute little giraffe neighbor

The cutest little lion ever!

loves candy just like his momma!

handing out candy

don't you hate it when your parents dress you up like a lion
and then you get a cheerio stuck on your face?
ha!
although, he seems to be pretty happy about it!

we had a great Halloween!

Jenny visits... & SYTYCD!

In the midst of working on our home...
my dear friend, Jenny,
came to visit.
I finally got to meet her 2 beautiful daughters!
and she gave me some of her fabulous
Thanks Jenny!

Adrian and I also went to

It was super fun!

home

I hosted a bridal shower at our house on friday night
and it was just the motivation we needed to get our place
looking and feeling more like "our home".
We got a lot of things that have been on
our "to do" list for a long time
done this week.
we (especially Adrian, who only got one hour of sleep one night this week)
are tired, but loving "our home"!

The first week we moved to Utah
we bought a table at a garage sale for $20!

and... have been working on painting it for some time...

This week...
we finished it!
it is a cute pedestal table...
although you can't really see the pedestal in this picture...

I had been in search of a hutch for awhile
and finally found one that i love on ksl.com (the utah craigslist) this week.

The lady that I bought my hutch from
actually refinishes a lot of furniture.
When we went to pick up the hutch,
we saw this dresser

we told her what we wanted...
and she turned it into this (in just a couple days!)...
 We love it!
(in case you live in Utah...
and want to check out her stuff or have her look for and redo
something for you...

Adrian also painted a wall this week!
It was a bit painful...
(hence the 1 hour of sleep)
but, turned out looking FABULOUS!
Thanks Adrian!

we also hung a few more pictures...

 and a chandelier!

and now...
we are sitting on the couch relaxing!  :-)

I LOVE HOME!
